It prepares the nails for gel application by filling in any cracks and smoothing out imperfections, as well as ensuring a strong bond between the polish and the nail plate surface. This base coat should be applied in the thinnest layer possible, preferably starting with four fingers and then moving on to the thumb. This little trick helps prevent the base coat from running to one side.
