Triphala is an Ayurvedic blend of three fruits:
- Amla (Emblica Officinalis)
- Bibhitaki (Terminalia Bellirica)
- Haritaki (Terminalia Chebula)Amla (Indian gooseberry) primarily affects the lungs, stomach, liver, and heart. The sour taste
of Amla in Ayurveda is associated with Pitta energy and the fire element. Amla is rich
in antioxidants, flavonoids, carotenes, and is one of the richest sources of Vitamin C.Haritaki (Harada) has six tastes, predominantly bitter, which is associated with
Vata energy and the element of air. The fruit is a rich source of tannins, amino acids, and fructose. It includes
also succinic acid and sitosterol.Bibhitaki (Beheda) is sweet, bitter, astringent, stringent, and warming. It primarily works
on the lungs, heart, and liver. It contains 35% oils (including linoleic oil) and 45% proteins.According to Ayurveda, TRIPHALA is used as a comprehensive cleansing agent for the body.
Research on Triphala has shown that this Ayurvedic formula can be effective in several clinical applications, such as stimulating appetite, reducing acidity, and preventing dental caries. It possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antibacterial, antimutagenic, adaptogenic, antitumor, chemoprotective, and radioprotective properties. Polyphenols in Triphala promote the growth of beneficial bifidobacteria and lactobacilli while suppressing the growth of undesirable intestinal microorganisms.
