Rapid Gardnerella vaginalis Antigen Test for At-Home Use by Women and Men
How the Gardnerella vaginalis Test Works:
The test requires a urine sample. It is recommended to use a morning urine sample, as the concentration of bacteria is highest at this time. The test operates on the principle of qualitative and visual detection of the bacterial antigen using the test device – a cassette.
The G1 test is part of the rapid test group, providing results within 15 minutes. It is not recommended to interpret results after 30 minutes, as moisture may alter the outcome.
Gardnerella vaginalis is a leading cause of genital and urinary tract infections in both women and men, with men often being asymptomatic carriers.
This anaerobic bacterium causes a range of unpleasant symptoms, including a distinctive "fishy" odor from the female genital tract, burning, and itching. Alarmingly, many infections are asymptomatic, leading to unintentional transmission to others.
Risk factors for infection include a busy intimate life with multiple partners, use of intrauterine devices, prolonged antibiotic therapy, weakened immunity, hormonal treatments and imbalances, inadequate personal hygiene, frequent vaginal douching, and regular visits to public swimming pools and jacuzzis.
Untreated Gardnerella vaginalis infections can result in serious complications, especially in pregnant women. These include pelvic inflammatory diseases, premature rupture of membranes, and miscarriages. Other consequences of untreated infections are cervicitis, endometritis, and salpingitis.
Although men often do not exhibit typical symptoms, they can be carriers of Gardnerella vaginalis, which may lead to prostatitis, epididymitis, and even infertility.
Self-testing is advised for pregnant women, women before childbirth, and individuals with an active intimate lifestyle, frequent travelers, and those who use public pools and restrooms.
